Javacheff Christo est mieux connu par des projets artistiques d’une grande échelle, qui impliquent le conditionnement d'air, l'emballage des bâtiments et faisant usage des éléments du paysage naturel. Christo a commencé sa carrière en tant que peintre réaliste social, après avoir étudié à l'académie des Beaux-arts de Sofia. Il a ensuite étudié la conception scénographique à Prague et de la sculpture à Vienne. Après son déménagement à Paris, où il a rencontré sa femme Jeanne-Claude, il a commencé à collaborer avec elle sur de nombreux projets artistiques. La première exposition personnelle de Javacheff Christo a eu lieu à Cologne en 1961 à la Galerie Haro Lauhus qui avait pour but de protester contre l'existence du mur de Berlin, sa femme et lui ont construit le mur des barils de pétrole (1962). Au cours de son séjour à Paris, il a également commencé à expérimenter l'emballage des objets. Au milieu des années 1960, il a commencé à travailler sur des projets à grande échelle, tels que des modèles de devantures de magasins projetés sans fenêtres, et a développé l'idée de créer de l'air comprimé. En 1968, il expose un paquet cubique gonflé de 5,600 mètres à la Documenta 4 à Kassel. À la fin des années 1960, il a commencé à envelopper des bâtiments, en commençant par la Kunsthalle de Berne et plus tard, le musée d'art contemporain de Chicago. Il a continué à envelopper les caractéristiques dans l'environnement, comme le mile de la côte australienne près de Sydney. En 1972, il a créé la vallée Rideau comme une œuvre d'art temporaire dans le paysage du Colorado et en 1976, il a conçu le Running Fence comme une œuvre importante de l'art environnemental temporaire en Californie. En 1995, son œuvre a attiré l'attention partout dans le monde et surtout lorsque son Reichstag enveloppé a figuré en bonne place dans les médias. Pendant deux semaines, des millions de personnes sont allées à Berlin pour la voir. Cette œuvre était le symbole de la réunification de l'Allemagne, parce que Jeanne-Claude et Christo Javacheff avaient d'abord proposé l'idée en 1971, et le projet a été rendu possible que lorsque le mur de Berlin est tombé deux décennies plus tard.
