Het werk toont Celia Birtwell, een lange tijd vriend en muze van Hockney, zittend in een rieten stoel, gekleed in een gedessineerde, vloeiende jurk. Het kunstwerk is gemaakt met behulp van softground etsen en aquatint technieken, met vijf koperen platen om de delicate details te bereiken. De zwart-witte compositie benadrukt de ingewikkelde texturen van het riet en de stof, en legt de nadruk op de elegantie en houding van het onderwerp. Hockney's aandacht voor lijnwerk vangt Celia’s ontspannen, maar verfijnde houding, waardoor het portret zowel intiem als expressief is.
