Original lithograph on paper - Signed in pencil lower right and numbered // Pyramids & Spirales de Couleurs by Alexander Calder, created in 1974, is a limited edition lithograph featuring bold geometric forms and vibrant color contrasts. The artwork displays pyramids in red and black, resting on abstract oval shapes, alongside dynamic spirals and whirling patterns in blue, black, and white. The yellow background intensifies the sense of movement and energy, characteristic of Calder’s playful and abstract approach to form and color. The composition brings together the artist's exploration of balance, both physically in his famous mobiles and visually in his two-dimensional works. This lithograph, signed in pencil by the artist, was produced in a limited edition of 95, with additional artist’s proofs (EA).

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
