Andy Warhol's Queen Ntombi Twala 347, 1985 screen-print featuring a bold portrait of the Swazi queen in bright blue, yellow, and green accents.

Screenprint on Lenox Museum Board - Hand signed and numbered by the artist. // Queen Ntombi Twala 347 by Andy Warhol, created in 1985, is a vibrant screen-print from his Reigning Queens series. This limited edition piece, printed on Lenox Museum Board, captures the regal image of Queen Ntombi Twala, the first and only female ruler of Swaziland. Warhol's use of bold colors—such as electric blues, yellows, and greens—emphasizes the royal and symbolic attributes of the portrait. The bright halo effect around her head enhances her presence and authority, while the geometric shapes and abstract details add a modern, pop art flair typical of Warhol’s style. Hand-signed and numbered, this piece showcases Warhol’s ability to merge cultural significance with his distinct artistic vision, celebrating the power and influence of iconic figures. The print is part of a limited edition of 40, plus 10 artist proofs (AP), making it a highly collectible and significant work within Warhol’s oeuvre.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
