Lithograph on Rives BFK White paper // Portraits (B&W) 4 by Christopher Wool is a 2014 lithograph on Rives BFK White paper. This piece continues Wool’s exploration of abstract forms, using a combination of small, dense dotted patterns juxtaposed with fluid, splattered ink marks in various shades of black and gray. The scattered, organic composition creates a sense of movement and randomness within a structured grid of dots, evoking both control and chaos. Wool's signature aesthetic is present in the interplay between order and disorder, making this work a study in visual tension and texture.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
