Claes Oldenburg’s Untitled 2 Plates, rubber-stamped geometric drawing in red on left, repeated BOOM text on right in various sizes and colors.

Rubber Stamp on BFK Rives paper - Published by Indianakatz New York - Suite: Stamped Indelibly - Originated from a Portfolio Book - Signed and Dated // This mixed media work by Claes Oldenburg, part of the Stamped Indelibly portfolio, utilizes rubber stamps on BFK Rives paper to create two minimalist yet evocative compositions. On the left, a simple red outline of a geometric structure with a round top captures Oldenburg’s fascination with everyday objects reimagined as abstract forms. On the right, the word “BOOM” is repeated in various font sizes and colors, suggesting a playful sound or action, characteristic of Oldenburg’s humor and exploration of pop culture. The balance between image and text speaks to Oldenburg's unique ability to transform mundane elements into whimsical, thought-provoking art. Signed and dated, these prints reflect his bold experimentation with materials and media during the 1960s.

What is late modernism?

Late Modernism refers to the continuation and evolution of Modernist principles in art, architecture, and literature from the mid-20th century into the late 20th century. This movement maintains a focus on form, abstraction, and the rejection of traditional styles, but it often incorporates more complexity and ambiguity compared to early Modernism. Late Modernism explores themes such as alienation, identity, and the fragmentation of reality, reflecting the social and cultural shifts of the post-war period. It is seen in the works of architects like Louis Kahn and artists like Francis Bacon, who pushed the boundaries of Modernism while responding to the changing world around them.
