Psalm: Beatus qui intelligit, non-glitter

Damien Hirst's Curare, 2012, woodcut, four colored circles—pink, red, maroon, green—on a white background, minimalist style.

Woodcut on Somerset White Paper - Signed by the artist and numbered // Damien Hirst's Curare (2012) is a woodcut print featuring four distinctively colored circles—pink, red, dark maroon, and green—positioned symmetrically against a white background. The minimalist arrangement and flat, vibrant hues are characteristic of Hirst's well-known Spot Paintings series, where the artist explores color theory, precision, and repetition. Each circle’s hue contrasts sharply with the others, creating a visual harmony that highlights both uniformity and individuality within a structured grid. Printed on Somerset White Paper and signed and numbered by Hirst, this limited edition woodcut underscores his continued investigation into the psychological impact of color and form.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
