Screenprint in colors, on laid paper // Ed Ruscha's Hollywood is a limited edition screen print from 1968, capturing a stunning panoramic view of the iconic Hollywood sign at sunset. The piece features the sign fading into the distance, bathed in a warm gradient of oranges and yellows, symbolizing the allure and fading grandeur of the entertainment capital. The minimalistic approach, with the Hollywood sign barely legible against the skyline, invokes themes of dreams, fame, and the passage of time. Ruscha's use of screen-printing on laid paper gives the print a crisp, clean feel, emphasizing the blending tones of the sky.

What is New Topographics?
New Topographics is a term coined in 1975 by curator William Jenkins to describe a group of photographers whose work focused on formal black-and-white images of urban and industrial landscapes. Jenkins initially described their aesthetic as banal, but the photographers themselves argued that their compositions were as significant as those of natural landscapes, emphasizing the beauty in everyday, man-made environments.
