Signed, numbered at the bottom // Sin / Without by Ed Ruscha, created in 2002, is a lithograph that features the word SIN boldly imposed over a monochromatic landscape, where dramatic clouds fill the background. The typography is crisp and stark, standing in contrast to the soft, almost haunting quality of the cloudy sky. The word SIN is visually striking, creating a sense of contemplation on themes of morality, nature, and existentialism. Ruscha’s choice to pair text with a seemingly simple yet evocative image reflects his exploration of language and imagery, questioning the viewer's interpretations and associations with words in a visually powerful context.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
