Peruvian born Fernando Bryce, is a
contemporary artist that received his formal education art institutes in both Lima and Paris. His main preferred medium to work with is sumi ink on paper, which typically are modestly sized and no larger than a movie poster. Most of his works involves having a series of paintings all sharing a common motif such as the works The Book of Needs and Arte Nuevo. This celebrated artist has had numerous group and solo exhibitions worldwide and has received large amounts of critical acclaim. Bryce's works typically have themes focusing on politics and media, and how the two interact with each other. The content of his paintings shows the use of propaganda in news articles and occasionally in advertising. Fernando Bryce says that his motivation for his work comes from his time as a young child in Peru, where newspapers were often used for educational purposes. Fernando Bryce's work, which is often referred to as Archive Studies, are reproductions of real literature such as newspapers, pamphlets and magazines that he creates in a style that he calls "mimetic analysis." Though painted by hand, many of his works look exactly like real newspapers that were printed during various historical events. He is also known to paint portraits of famous figures in the same newspaper like appearance that are on the borderline with comic strips. Fernando Bryce is currently based out of both New York and Lima and has been producing works that have been featured in solo exhibits consistently since 2011 which is when he had his first one man show.
