Original screenprint on Gemini Rag Board - Published by Gemini G.E.L. - Suite: Race Track // Del Mar by Frank Stella, created in 1972, is a limited edition screen print that is part of the Race Track suite. The print features a series of elongated, concentric oval shapes that gently taper at the ends, evoking the form of a racetrack. Rendered in soft, muted tones of pale blue, cream, and gray, the repetitive forms create a sense of calm movement and symmetry. The minimalist composition, with its clean lines and delicate color palette, reflects Stella's exploration of geometric abstraction during this period. The large scale of the print (20.25 x 80 inches) allows the viewer to become immersed in the meditative flow of the design, reinforcing Stella's mastery of balance and precision.

What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
