Set of 18 prints - each print is done over with watercolour (so all are unique) - edition of 30 (each signed, dated, numbered verso) - the complete suite comes in 2 clamshell-boxes. // Untitled – Portfolio (18) by Gert & Uwe Tobias is a 2008 collection of 18 drypoint prints, each uniquely hand-finished with watercolor, creating a distinct fusion of printmaking and painting. This eclectic suite features a variety of whimsical and surreal figures, from abstracted human forms to curious creatures, all rendered in a playful, yet enigmatic style. The works are composed of vibrant colors, geometric patterns, and intricate linework, blending influences from folk art, modernism, and surrealism. What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
