Set of 9 lithographs // Frankfurter Allgemeine by Jacob Kassay, a limited edition print series from 2014, is a set of nine lithographs that recreates pages from the renowned German newspaper, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Each lithograph meticulously captures the layout, text, and imagery, with the grayscale presentation stripping the pages of color, transforming familiar news content into an abstract and contemplative display. This piece challenges viewers to reconsider the role of media, context, and the passage of time in our consumption of information. By recontextualizing these newspaper pages as artwork, Kassay blurs the boundaries between journalism and visual art, prompting a reflection on the ephemeral nature of news and its transformation when preserved in art.

What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
