Jean-Michel Basquiat's Cabeza, 1982/2004, screen-print, abstract figure with black skeletal body and distorted face in red and white lines against a yellow background.

From the Editions II Portfolio - 12 color screenprint - Signed by Gerard Basquiat, the Administrator of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat at the time of publishing // Cabeza by Jean-Michel Basquiat, originally created in 1982 and published as a screen-print in 2004, is a powerful example of Basquiat’s raw and expressive style. The artwork features a skeletal, abstracted figure with a black body and a distorted face drawn in vibrant red and white lines. The figure, which seems to hover in a yellow background, evokes a sense of intensity and raw emotion, characteristic of Basquiat’s exploration of identity, anatomy, and human vulnerability. The chaotic lines and bold color palette, along with text elements like AOPKHES, are emblematic of Basquiat’s interest in combining graffiti, primitivism, and high art. The expressive, almost primitive figure, with its exaggerated features and skeletal structure, evokes themes of mortality and struggle, central to much of Basquiat's oeuvre. This print was published posthumously and is signed by Gerard Basquiat, the artist’s father, who managed Jean-Michel Basquiat’s estate at the time of the release.
