Screenprint on Museum Board - Signed by Gerard Basquiat, the Administrator of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat at the time of publishing - The posthumous release // Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Flexible is a striking screenprint, originally created in 1984 and posthumously re-released in 2016. This work showcases Basquiat's distinctive style, featuring a central skeletal figure outlined in vibrant reds, yellows, and greens, set against a raw, textured background of uneven white lines. The figure's mask-like face and exposed ribcage evoke themes of identity, anatomy, and power, frequently explored in Basquiat's oeuvre. The rough, hand-drawn lines and energetic strokes give the piece a dynamic, almost electric feel. The use of bold colors and primitive symbolism reflects Basquiat’s deep engagement with Afro-Caribbean and street art influences. This edition is signed by Gerard Basquiat, the administrator of the artist's estate.

What is East Village Art?
In 1981, Patti Astor opened the first art gallery in New York City's East Village, helping to launch the careers of various artists and musicians. The gallery started small but quickly gained popularity, contributing to the emergence of art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art in the area. The East Village became a hub for these new artistic expressions. However, the gallery closed in 1985 due to waning interest.
