La chevelure De Bérénice II

Joan Miró's Pantagruel, 1978, etching and aquatint with bold black shapes, red, yellow, blue circles, and abstract figure, on textured background.

Original etching, aquatint, carborundum and scraper printed in colors on Arches wove paper - Hand-signed in pencil in the margin lower right Miró - Published by Maeght, París. // Pantagruel by Joan Miró, created in 1978, is a striking limited edition print that combines etching, aquatint, carborundum, and scraper techniques on Arches wove paper. The piece, measuring a substantial 137.5 x 96.5 cm, features bold black forms interspersed with vibrant red, blue, and yellow circles, creating a lively, abstract composition. A dynamic figure seems to dance above the primary form, adding a whimsical element. The title, Pantagruel, evokes the larger-than-life character from Rabelais’s literature, suggesting a connection to themes of imagination and surrealism. Miró’s meticulous lines and textured shading provide depth and a sense of movement, inviting viewers to explore the detailed layers and symbolic forms. This large-scale work captures Miró’s playful yet profound approach to abstraction.

What is dada?

Also known as Dadaism, Dada was a literary and artistic movement that began in 1916 in Zurich, Switzerland. It emerged as a rejection of rationalism and nationalism, which were seen as contributing factors to World War I. The movement had political undertones and was strongly anti-war. Dada activities included demonstrations, gatherings, and the publication of literary and art journals that explored cultural and political topics.
