Woodcut on paper - Suite: Apartment - Hand signed and numbered by the artist // Julian Opie's Apartment 11 (2021) is a woodcut print that highlights his minimalist approach to urban architecture. The piece features a frontal view of a tall apartment building, emphasizing its geometric and repetitive patterns. The linear structure is depicted in a bold, monochromatic palette, using dark and light contrasts to accentuate the building's symmetry and uniformity. The vertical alignment of windows, balconies, and structural elements reflects the rhythm and order typical of Opie's architectural depictions. Part of the Apartment suite, the work captures the essence of contemporary cityscapes through a simplified and graphic lens. The print is hand-signed and numbered by the artist, reinforcing its authenticity and collectible nature. This piece exemplifies Opie’s focus on the interplay between minimalism and urban environments.

What is new British Sculpture?
New British Sculpture is the name referring to the work produced by a group of sculptors, installation artists, and other creators who exhibited together in London during the 1980s. This group included artists like Richard Deacon, Richard Wentworth, and Tony Cragg. Tim Woods helped define this movement by identifying four major themes: the blending of kitsch and pop culture, the use of UK urban waste in a bricolage style, the assignment of new meanings to everyday objects, and a playful approach using wit and humor.
