wall steel sculpture - black powder coated // Carp 1 by Julian Opie, a wall-mounted steel sculpture from 2015, captures the fluidity and grace of swimming fish in a minimalist style. Rendered in black powder-coated steel, the sculpture features simplified, continuous outlines of carp, each fish elegantly curved and overlapping to create a dynamic sense of movement. Opie’s characteristic style, marked by bold lines and a reduction of forms to their essential shapes, highlights the essence of the fish rather than intricate detail. Mounted on a blank wall, this piece invokes a serene, flowing energy, inviting viewers to appreciate the beauty of natural motion within an abstract, modern framework.

What is new British Sculpture?
New British Sculpture is the name referring to the work produced by a group of sculptors, installation artists, and other creators who exhibited together in London during the 1980s. This group included artists like Richard Deacon, Richard Wentworth, and Tony Cragg. Tim Woods helped define this movement by identifying four major themes: the blending of kitsch and pop culture, the use of UK urban waste in a bricolage style, the assignment of new meanings to everyday objects, and a playful approach using wit and humor.
