Cornish Coast 2: Gribbin Head

Julian Opie's Cornish Coast 2: Gribbin Peninsula, digital print on acrylic, minimalist seascape with blue sea, cliffs, and pale sky gradient.

Digital print face mounted on acylic // Julian Opie's Cornish Coast 2: Gribbin Peninsula is a 2017 limited edition mixed media print, featuring a digital print face-mounted on acrylic. The artwork, part of an edition of 20 with 5 artist proofs, depicts a minimalist coastal landscape, focusing on the horizon where sea meets sky. The composition uses flat planes of blue and dark shades to illustrate the sea and the cliffs, while the sky is rendered in a pale gradient, evoking a calm and serene atmosphere. Opie’s signature style of abstraction and reduction to essential forms is evident, creating a modern, stylized representation of the natural landscape.

What is new British Sculpture?

New British Sculpture is the name referring to the work produced by a group of sculptors, installation artists, and other creators who exhibited together in London during the 1980s. This group included artists like Richard Deacon, Richard Wentworth, and Tony Cragg. Tim Woods helped define this movement by identifying four major themes: the blending of kitsch and pop culture, the use of UK urban waste in a bricolage style, the assignment of new meanings to everyday objects, and a playful approach using wit and humor.
