Julian Opie's Elena and Cressie Get Ready for the Party 4; stylized woman with pigtails on a gradient background

From the limited edition of 30 - Published by Alan Cristea Gallery London - Original serigraph on Perspex with background inkjet print in colors on paper - Hand signed in black ink and numbered on a label affixed to the reverse // Elena and Cressie Get Ready for the Party 4 by Julian Opie is a stylized serigraph that captures the artist's iconic minimalist portraiture style. Created in 2011, this print portrays a young woman with dark, voluminous hair in pigtails, set against a warm gradient background that transitions from yellow to red. Her expression is slightly pensive as she glances over her shoulder, creating a sense of anticipation or curiosity. Opie’s signature use of bold outlines and flat colors reduces the figure to essential shapes, yet retains an expressive quality. This limited edition work, printed on Perspex with an inkjet background, reflects Opie’s unique approach to blending digital and traditional techniques, offering a modern take on portraiture.

What is Hard Edge Art?

Hard Edge art is a style of abstract painting that became popular in the 1960s. It features areas of color separated by crisp, sharp edges that are painted with geometric precision. The term hard-edge painting was coined by art critic Jules Langsner to describe this approach, which contrasts with the softer, more fluid forms of other abstract styles.
