Inkjet on paper, mounted on Dibond in aluminium frame - Series: French Villages - Hand signed, numbered verso on gallery label // French Village 2 by Julian Opie is an inkjet print on paper, mounted on Dibond and framed in aluminum. Created in 2021 as part of Opie's French Villages series, this work portrays a serene village street scene through minimalistic, geometric forms. The muted color palette of beige, brown, and gray tones captures the quiet ambiance of an empty, sunlit street, inviting the viewer into a peaceful yet abstracted environment. What is new British Sculpture?
New British Sculpture is the name referring to the work produced by a group of sculptors, installation artists, and other creators who exhibited together in London during the 1980s. This group included artists like Richard Deacon, Richard Wentworth, and Tony Cragg. Tim Woods helped define this movement by identifying four major themes: the blending of kitsch and pop culture, the use of UK urban waste in a bricolage style, the assignment of new meanings to everyday objects, and a playful approach using wit and humor.
