Orignal lambda print - Published by Alan Cristea Gallery - Suite: Twenty Six Portraits - Comes with a scanned copy of numbering and signature page from the book // Julian Opie's Ruth with Cigarette 2 (2005) is a limited edition Lambda print, part of the Twenty Six Portraits suite and published by the Alan Cristea Gallery. Measuring 39.4 x 29.2 cm, the work showcases Opie’s signature minimalist style, where bold, black outlines define the figure against a flat, light blue background. The portrait reduces the human form to simple, geometric shapes, emphasizing the subject's arm holding a cigarette. Opie’s approach strips away detail, focusing instead on the essence of posture and form, creating a contemporary, iconic representation. The small scale draws the viewer into an intimate engagement with the stylized figure.

What is new British Sculpture?
New British Sculpture is the name referring to the work produced by a group of sculptors, installation artists, and other creators who exhibited together in London during the 1980s. This group included artists like Richard Deacon, Richard Wentworth, and Tony Cragg. Tim Woods helped define this movement by identifying four major themes: the blending of kitsch and pop culture, the use of UK urban waste in a bricolage style, the assignment of new meanings to everyday objects, and a playful approach using wit and humor.
