Laser cut Museum board relief print in frame - Dated and numbered verso on gallery label // Julian Opie's Street 1 (2020) is a striking relief print that captures the essence of modern urban life. This piece features four stylized figures walking in a row, each depicted in silhouette-like form, showcasing Opie’s characteristic minimalism and bold outlines. The figures are rendered in vibrant colors—yellow, black, white, and green—against a vivid orange background, creating a dynamic contrast that emphasizes their movement. The laser-cut museum board technique enhances the print's depth and dimensionality, making the figures appear almost as cut-out animations against the backdrop. This work exemplifies Opie’s focus on everyday life and his ability to distill complex forms into simple, yet expressive compositions.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
