Julian Opie, Street 4, 2020, relief print with four stylized figures in various colors walking against an orange background.

Laser cut Museum board relief print in frame - Dated and numbered verso on gallery label // Julian Opie's Street 4 (2020) is a striking relief print featuring four simplified figures, each rendered in bold colors—green, black, blue, and yellow—walking in line against a vivid orange background. The laser-cut museum board enhances the print’s three-dimensional effect, giving depth to the silhouettes. The figures depict urban individuals, engaged in their daily routines, capturing Opie’s signature style of minimalism and motion. The work plays with contrast and vibrant hues, emphasizing the dynamism and diversity of city life.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
