61 acrylic squares hanging on wires. // Mobile Losange Rouge by Julio Le Parc is a mesmerizing kinetic sculpture that explores light, movement, and geometric abstraction. Created in 2018, this piece features 61 small red acrylic squares, meticulously suspended on wires, forming a dynamic diamond-shaped pattern. The sculpture’s structure allows for subtle movement, causing the red squares to shift and cast shadows, creating a play of light and color on the white background. Le Parc, a key figure in the kinetic and op art movements, invites viewers to engage with the piece from multiple angles, where shifting perspectives reveal new interactions of color and form. Measuring 80 cm in both height and width, and 12 cm in depth, the artwork embodies a rhythmic dance of geometry and light.

What is concrete art?

Concrete Art is an art movement founded by the Dutch artist Theo van Doesburg in the 1930s. The movement emphasizes pure abstraction, focusing on geometric shapes and colors without any reference to the natural world or symbolic meaning. Unlike other forms of abstract art, Concrete Art is entirely non-representational and is based on mathematical principles and precise execution. It aims to create universal, timeless works by using simple, clear forms that emphasize objectivity and clarity.
