// Julio Le Parc's Modulation 911 (1987) is an acrylic painting on paper that showcases his exploration of light, form, and perception. The composition is minimal yet impactful, featuring geometric elements such as a sphere and a prism-like structure, rendered with a precise, clean aesthetic. The interplay of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and volume, as beams of light emanate from the top, seemingly illuminating the geometric forms. The use of contrasting colors, particularly the orange outline against the darker background, highlights the structure’s contours, creating a dynamic visual experience. Le Parc’s work invites viewers to engage with the illusion of three-dimensionality, a recurring theme in his kinetic and optical art practice.

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
