Man Ray Cadeau cast iron iron sculpture with copper nails embedded on the surface, surreal reinterpretation of domestic object.

Cast iron sculpture with bronze patina and copper nails Signed by the artist (stamped), titled and numbered (on handle) - 1921/74 - with original box and original certification // Cadeau by Man Ray, originally created in 1921, is a groundbreaking surrealist sculpture that transforms an everyday object into an unsettling and provocative piece of art. This cast iron iron, with a bronze patina, has a row of copper nails embedded on its smooth surface, rendering the object unusable in its traditional role. The juxtaposition of a domestic item with sharp, disruptive elements challenges conventional perceptions of functionality and safety, embodying the Dadaist spirit of disrupting norms and reinterpreting familiar forms. This limited edition, signed and numbered on the handle, captures Man Ray’s irreverent approach and his exploration of object transformation in art.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
