La Fortune II

Man Ray's Rue Férou lithograph from 1974 depicts a surreal Parisian street scene with a cart, stone walls, and rounded trees.

Colour lithograph - Astrid, Varese - Printed by Atelier Desjobert, Paris // Rue Férou by Man Ray, a limited edition lithograph from 1974, depicts a mysterious Parisian street scene infused with surrealist elements. The artwork presents a narrow alley flanked by stone walls and shadowed buildings. A cart laden with an indistinct, draped form rests in the foreground, adding an enigmatic presence. Rounded, meticulously shaped trees emerge from behind the walls, their lush green forms contrasting against the muted stone textures. The sky above is a mix of blue tones with fragmented clouds, enhancing the dreamlike atmosphere. Printed at Atelier Desjobert, Paris, Man Ray’s lithograph captures an evocative, almost otherworldly ambiance, blending everyday reality with surrealist intrigue.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
