Lithograph in colors, on Arches paper, from the special edition of 30 unsigned and unfolded. Sheet: 44 x 64 mm Image: 39 x 60 cm Published by André Sauret, Paris. Printed by Mourlot, Paris. From the book "Regards sur Paris" by Gérard Bauër. Catalogue raisonné: - Mourlot, No. 351. - Cramer, Illustrated books, No. 53. Marc Chagall’s Quai de la Tournelle (1960) is a richly colored lithograph from the series Regards sur Paris. In this dreamlike composition, deep blues and greens envelop the cityscape of Paris, where the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the bridges of the Seine emerge in the background. In the foreground, a mother in red cradles her child, radiating warmth and tenderness, while on the right, a ghostly crucifixion figure in blue leans into the scene. Above, an eclipsed sun and floating angelic figures contribute to the spiritual and emotional depth of the work. Chagall’s signature blend of mysticism, memory, and symbolism is evident, reflecting his poetic vision of love and suffering intertwined within the city’s landscape. This lithograph was printed by Mourlot and published by André Sauret in a special edition of Regards sur Paris.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
