original lithograph; signed and numbered. // Mel Ramos’ HAV-A-HAVANNA #6 (COHIBA 2), a lithograph from 2005, presents a playful, pop-art-inspired image. A nude blonde woman is perched provocatively atop a large, detailed depiction of a Cohiba cigar, set against a soft beige circular background. Known for his satirical and erotic takes on advertising and media, Ramos blends glamour with irony, using the oversized cigar as a suggestive symbol. The work embodies Ramos’ fascination with commercial aesthetics and the intersection of sensuality and consumerism, making a bold visual statement that is both humorous and critical of advertising tropes.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
