Signed and numbered // Mel Ramos’s The Rounder (1999) is a limited-edition lithograph that features a nude woman in high heels holding a sign reading Round 7 in bold purple letters. The woman is depicted standing confidently in the middle of a boxing ring, her body rendered with Ramos’s signature hyperrealism, blending sensuality and pop art aesthetics. The bright lighting on the figure contrasts with the darker, muted background of the ring, drawing the viewer's attention to the figure’s posture and expression. Ramos’s use of bold, commercial imagery combined with the pin-up style challenges traditional depictions of femininity and beauty, inserting a playful yet provocative element into his work.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
