Original lithograph on Rives Velin Paper. Published Editions Meyer Lausanne. Hand signed by the artist in pencil, and numbered. Roberto Matta’s Untitled XXI (from Come Detta Dentro Vo Significando) (1962) is a mesmerizing lithograph that embodies his signature fusion of surrealism and abstraction. Executed in delicate shades of blue on Rives Velin paper, the composition is filled with intricate, web-like structures and dynamic linear forms, evoking an ethereal, cosmic landscape. Two central mechanical-organic figures appear suspended in space, their forms fragmented yet interconnected, with striking red accents at their core, suggesting energy or emotion. Part of the Come Detta Dentro Vo Significando suite, this rare limited-edition lithograph, published by Editions Meyer Lausanne, reflects Matta’s exploration of psychological and metaphysical dimensions. His fluid lines and layered compositions create a dreamlike scene that invites deep contemplation.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
