Working extensively in Kinetic and Optical art, Walter Le Blanc is celebrated for his work with the Torsion technique – on both canvas and sculpture, the artist would tighten and twist such materials as painted cotton threads and plastic ribbons over a traditional support to create simple geometric shapes and ray-like patterns that produced the illusion of movement. Twisted Strings is just one among many examples of the aforementioned technique – this particular piece was comprised of string, black latex paint and canvas and was a study of the interplay between light and surface.
