Signed on the verso // Sketch #1b by Yaacov Agam showcases the artist's unique approach to kinetic and optical art, even within the medium of pen and ink drawing. In this piece, Agam uses simple, flowing lines in shades of blue, green, and orange against a white background, forming an elegant, looping pattern that appears to dance across the page. The interplay of parallel and curving lines creates a rhythmic sense of movement and depth, embodying Agam's signature style of engaging the viewer’s perception. Known for his explorations of color, form, and optical illusions, Agam invites the viewer to experience an abstract journey through dynamic, layered compositions. This sketch, signed on the verso, reflects Agam’s mastery of fluidity and form in minimalistic yet vibrant expression.

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
