Cabelo

Original Signed Artworks & Limited Edition Prints For Sale

Brazilian artist Cabelo does not limit himself to any single medium, instead choosing to work in poetry, music, painting, drawing, sculpture, and performance. The term "cultural seismographer" is a common descriptor applied to the eclectic creator.
Cabelo’s visual works are best known for the use of bold lines and colors influenced by urban aesthetics. He creates performance pieces and sculptural environments that encapsulate the essence of Brazilian life and culture.

He was born in 1967 and his work shows the influence of the conceptual art movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He embraces multiple artistic outlets, all focused on an abstract, metaphysical embodiment of Brazil as an idea, seen from the inside.

In his own words, "To begin with, I don’t belong to myself. I’m a horse of the world. Poetry’s vehicle." His chosen moniker, Cabelo, derives from the Portuguese word for "horse". In some afro-Brazilian rituals, the "horse" is the medium for a spirit.

What is Performance Art?

What is Performance Art?

Performance Art is a genre of fine art that is traditionally interdisciplinary, involving various art forms. It can be scripted or unscripted, random or carefully orchestrated, spontaneous, or meticulously planned, with or without audience participation. Performance Art can be presented live or through media, with the artist either present or absent. It typically involves four basic elements: space, the performer’s body or presence through a medium, time, and the relationship between performer and audience. The artwork consists of actions performed by an individual or group in a specific time and space.
