Jockum Nordström

Nordstrom does his drawings in crayon, pencil, and watercolor and uses a collage theme. His work has an old-fashioned theme about them and many depict art, folk, architecture and a maritime feel about them. Jockum Nordstrom best known for his collages draws figures and then cuts them out and moves them around piece by piece.
 
He creates several at once so that they can be used in later pieces of work. Nordstrom often refers to his collages as 'stills'. His exhibition, All I Have Learned and Forgotten Again, 2013 depicted the magic of childhood scenes and memories of exams and being at school which then turned into being in the adult world. He draws men and women with top hats and costume dresses the paintings show themes of cruelty, boredom, pain and lost innocence. For The Insects and The Hounds, 2014 - 2015, Nordstrom drew a series of paintings relating to Swedish architecture, hounds, horsemen, human wolves, ghosts and some scenes depict pornography. It makes you think of the world of make believe and reality, relating to relationships, power, and lust. Much of Jockum Nordstroms works has a sexual theme to it Spare Time and Big Sister shows it as being sensitive with signs of women being made to feel uncomfortable. His drawing I'm a Failure is taken from an album he did 'Toad and Dog' the cover shows a jungle scene and tribal women naked with spears. Read Less
