Penone Giuseppe

Original Signed Artworks & Limited Edition Prints For Sale

Renowned for his analysis of the relationship between man and the natural world, Penone Guiseppe is a sculptor whose early work is often associated with the Arte Povera movement.

« I hope that my work's universality will give it a longer shelf life. »
Penone Guiseppe
Guiseppe’s earliest works made use of unconventional materials such as wood, stone, clay and soil and were often site-specific; many of his earliest works were situated in the woodland local to his hometown of Piedmont- this series of work was titled Alpi Marittime.

« I have relationships with other artists because they understood the thinking behind my work. »
Penone Guiseppe

Thoughts of Leaves is also notable among the works that exemplify his interest in nature and our place alongside it; this piece draws comparisons between the traces left by the hands of the artist and the weathering and erosion of plants and minerals by the natural elements.

What is Arte Povera?

What is Arte Povera?

A movement and style in art that originated in Italy during the 1960s. It integrates elements of minimalism, performance art, and conceptual art by using everyday or seemingly worthless materials, such as newspapers, stones, or rags. The goal was to challenge and subvert the commercialization of art.
