Robert ParkeHarrison is part of a husband-and-wife photography team that has been making art together since the mid-1990s. Their photography focuses on connections between the environment and humanity, a notion that has gained popularity thanks to such ideas as the establishment of carbon footprints and such movements as the Go Green Initiative.

« We often joke that the camera that is not broken
is the one that gets used! »

Robert ParkeHarrison
The ParkeHarrisons use collage, painting techniques and photogravure to mold environments that look like they are taken from films. The ParkeHarrisons' collaborative bookThe Architect's Brother was listed in theNew York Times' ten best books about photography in 2000.

« some images invite us to use our medium format analog camera, while others are better suited to a digital camera. »
Robert ParkeHarrison

Their work appears in the permanent collections of more than 20 museums, including the Los Angeles County Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, and the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C. What is Environmental Art?

What is Environmental Art?

Environmental art is a collective term that refers to a wide range of artistic practices and works that engage with historical and ecological themes. The term often encompasses ecological concerns, although it is not exclusively defined by them. Environmental art acknowledges and appreciates the early history of the environmental art movement, including works with activist themes and those celebrating the connection between nature and the artist through the use of natural materials.
