Vernis-mou ets en lavis.
Atsushi Kaga’s Baby sharks (2026) is een soft-ground ets met lavis waarin speelse tekeningen, surrealistische beelden en losse verhalende fragmenten samenkomen in een droomachtige compositie. Blauwe silhouetten van haaien zweven over een licht getextureerde achtergrond vol antropomorfe bomen, dieren, ladders, helikopters, klokken en handgeschreven symbolen. In plaats van een lineair verhaal ontvouwt de beeldtaal zich als een stroom van gedachten of herinneringen, met een balans tussen humor en introspectie. De fijne ets-lijnen en transparante blauwe wassingen geven het werk een spontane en lichte uitstraling, terwijl de soft-ground techniek zorgt voor een tastbaar, handgemaakt oppervlak.

Wat is pop-art?

Popart is een kunstbeweging die in 1955 in Groot-Brittannië begon en eind jaren 1950 in de VS. Het daagde de traditionele beeldende kunst uit door afbeeldingen uit de populaire cultuur te gebruiken, zoals nieuws, reclame en stripboeken. Popart isoleert vaak materialen en plaatst ze in een nieuwe context, waarbij ze worden gecombineerd met niet-gerelateerde elementen. De beweging draait meer om de houding en ideeën die eraan ten grondslag liggen dan om de kunst zelf. Popart wordt gezien als een reactie op de dominante ideeën van het abstract expressionisme, waarbij alledaagse consumptiecultuur in de wereld van de beeldende kunst wordt gebracht.
