Keith Haring's ‘Story of Red and Blue #12’ is een lithografie in beperkte oplage uit 1989, waarin zijn speelse en symbolische benadering van kunst wordt getoond. De compositie bevat een blauwe figuur, langgerekt en minimalistisch, die interacteert met een cartoonachtige bloem. De figuur lijkt zachtjes de steel van de bloem vast te houden, die met eenvoudige zwarte lijnen is getekend en versierd met kleine blaadjes. De bloem zelf heeft een lachend gezicht, wat een gevoel van vreugde en verbondenheid uitstraalt. Wat is East Village Art?

In 1981 opende Patti Astor de eerste kunstgalerie in de East Village van New York, waarmee ze de carrières van verschillende kunstenaars en muzikanten hielp lanceren. De galerie begon klein, maar kreeg al snel populariteit en droeg bij aan het ontstaan van kunstbewegingen zoals Neo-Expressionisme en Street Art in de wijk. De East Village werd een centrum voor deze nieuwe artistieke uitdrukkingen. De galerie sloot echter in 1985 vanwege afnemende interesse.
