- David Spiller
Drawing his inspiration from the outputs of Pop Art and the iconography of Disney, David Spiller was a painter, renowned for his unique colourful works that often incorporate familiar cartoon figures with punchy catchphrases and song lyrics such as his Still Crazy After All These Years piece, a Daffy Duck painting with the title words emblazoned on the canvas in a collage style. The surfaces of many of Spiller’s work feature rudimentary scrawls and scribbles as inspired by the primal, almost child-like painterly techniques of theArt Brut movement and such associated artists as Jean Debuffet; rich in colour, quirky and fun, Spiller’s works are celebrated for their accessibility for children and adults alike. (Artist website)
