Copyright & Intellectual Property

1. Copyright in the artworks
The copyright and all other intellectual property rights in the artworks shown on www.composition.gallery — including the images, the artists' designs and the works themselves — belong to the respective artists or their rights-holders.
Buying an artwork through Composition gives you physical ownership of that artwork for your personal enjoyment. It does not transfer any copyright or other intellectual property right in the work or its image. You may not reproduce, copy, publish, commercially exploit or create derivative works from an artwork or its image without the rights-holder's permission, except as permitted by law.
2. Copyright in the Site and our content
All other content on the Site — including our artwork descriptions, written materials, photography, text, layout, design, graphics and software — is created by or for Composition and is owned by or licensed to Composition LLC / Composition Limited. It is protected by copyright and other laws.
Some images on the Site (including certain editorial and journal images, and certain artwork images) are used under licence from third parties or are provided by partner galleries, consignors or rights-holders, and remain the property of those owners; they are credited or licensed accordingly. The personal-use licence we grant you below does not extend to such third-party material.
We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to view and to print or download pages of the Site for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not otherwise copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, frame, embed, scrape, data-mine, sell, license or commercially use any Site content without our prior written consent. Trademarks and brands shown on the Site that are not ours are acknowledged as belonging to their owners.
Automated scraping, data mining, AI training, machine-learning ingestion, dataset creation, bulk extraction, mirroring, indexing, systematic reproduction or other automated collection of Site content is prohibited without our prior written consent.
3. Respecting others' rights
Composition respects intellectual property rights and does not knowingly publish infringing material. Content on the Site is selected, produced or licensed by us, or provided to us by partner galleries, consignors or rights-holders who confirm they hold the necessary rights. We do not host third-party uploads or user-generated content. If you believe content on the Site infringes your rights, please use the procedure below and we will review it promptly.
4. Reporting an infringement (takedown notice)
If you are a rights-holder (or authorised to act for one) and you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, send a written notice to the address in clause 5 including: 1. your name, contact details (postal address, phone, email) and, where relevant, the rights-holder you represent; 2. identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed; 3. identification of the material on the Site you say is infringing, with enough detail (e.g. the page URL) for us to locate it; 4. a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the rights-holder, its agent or the law; 5. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate; and 6. your physical or electronic signature.
On receiving a valid notice we will review it, and remove or disable access to the material where appropriate, and contact you. We may share your notice with the relevant artist or partner gallery so the underlying issue can be resolved. (This procedure follows the approach of the US DMCA and similar regimes; it does not limit any other legal rights or remedies of the rights-holder.)
