Jaume Plensa is an artist and sculptor of Spanish descent, who hails from Barcelona, Catalonia. He remained in his hometown to study art at the Escola Superior de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi and "Llotja" Schools. He is an internationally known sculptor who has exhibited his work all over the world. Some of his recent and ongoing exhibits have been showcased in Germany, Italy, Sweden, France, and the United States. In addition to his current Human Landscape showcases on display in Nashville, TN and Toledo, OH until November 2016, Plensa's 32-ton sculpture, which is entitled "Laura," was also on display in Buffalo, NY in November 2012. The notable work is a 20-foot tall sculpture, which is composed of 20 enormous pieces of marble from the south of Spain. Meanwhile, another of Plensa's noted works, "Echo," was exhibited in Madison Square Park in Manhattan, in the heart of New York City, throughout the Summer of 2011. Jaume Plensa is a versatile artist who is known for working is a variety of mediums including glass, stone, marble, granite, water, and different lighting elements, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs). (Artist website)
