Prince, Richard | Dude Ranch Nurse, 2008 — available on Composition Gallery
Lithograph with collage with offset lithography, hand coloring, hand cutting and pencil; Hand signed and numbered by the artist, recto.
Dude Ranch Nurse by Richard Prince is a provocative mixed-media piece from 2008 that combines lithography, collage, hand coloring, and pencil work. This limited edition print juxtaposes vintage book covers featuring nurse imagery with cut-out elements that disrupt and recontextualize the original content. The artwork plays with themes of sexuality, pop culture, and appropriation, typical of Prince's exploration of American iconography and his commentary on media-driven stereotypes. The duality of the nurse figure—both nurturing and objectified—is highlighted in this composition, inviting viewers to question cultural perceptions of femininity and commodification. Hand-signed and numbered by Prince, the piece reflects his signature blend of irony and critique.

What is East Village Art?

What is East Village Art?

In 1981, Patti Astor opened the first art gallery in New York City's East Village, helping to launch the careers of various artists and musicians. The gallery started small but quickly gained popularity, contributing to the emergence of art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art in the area. The East Village became a hub for these new artistic expressions. However, the gallery closed in 1985 due to waning interest.
