Pello Irazu has been an award winning sculptor since the early 1980s. He is one of the artists who have brought about a renewal of contemporary sculpture in Spain and the Basque country. He also produces photographic works, drawings, lithographs and installation art. Pello Irazu’s style of art is a blend of constructivism, minimalism and conceptualism. Pello Irazu studied fine arts at the University of Paid Vasco in Leoia, from 1981 to 1986, where he specialized in the study of sculpture. In 1982 he was awarded an art grant by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and the following year he won a Basque sculpture prize. The first solo exhibition of his work that was to take place outside of his native Basque Country was held in Spain in 1986 at the Fucares Gallery in Almagro. His work belongs to areas that lie between various major art disciplines. His sculpture features solid objects combined with flat images. This is to highlight the tensions that lie between three dimensional sculptural materials and the two dimensional representations that are seen in photographs, drawings and paintings. Pello Irazu has had several international solo exhibitions and his work has been displayed at several major art institutions, including the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
What is abstract art?
Abstract art uses form, shape, line, and color to create a visual experience without attempting to represent external reality. The composition exists independently of the world's visual references, focusing on expressing ideas and emotions through non-representational means.
