Rachel Harrison

Rachel Harrison, a New York native artist, works primarily in sculpture. She produces works of art by assembling many different everyday items, some of which were previously thought to be trash, into sculptures and other pieces of visual art. Harrison also commonly features celebrities in her work and makes references to popular culture. Rachel Harrison received of Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art fromWesleyan University in Connecticut. Her first solo exhibition occurred in 1996, and she has since toured and set up exhibitions all over the world, including in Vienna, London, Los Angeles and more. One of Rachel Harrison's most famous exhibitions was entitled "The Help." It occurred in 2012, and some pieces referenced celebrity Amy Winehouse. Using common objects in her art and sculpture, Rachel Harrison seeks to make commentary on the culture of consumerism. She addresses themes such as hidden agendas in marketing, and most of her art pieces are bright and colorful to draw the eye, using similar techniques to marketers of the products she uses in her art.
