Craig Kauffman was an American artist creating mostly abstract paintings and wall relief sculptures. He pioneered the use of acrylic plastic into his sculptures during the 60's and 70's and is best known for this art form. He continued throughout his career to use unorthodox materials. Craig Kauffman's experiments with painting on glass are what led him to using acrylic plastic. He found the glass to be too fragile and frustrating to work with. Experimenting with different groups of work, he discovered the industrial process of vacuum forming and then went on to create his sensuous art forms as wall reliefs. Craig Kauffman's art from the 60's has now become known as part of the Minimalism art movement and his work is associated with the L.A. Look. Craig Kauffman attained worldwide recognition for his use of color and new materials and was considered to be very influential in the Los Angeles art world. Craig Kauffman earned the attention of the art world from critics as well as admirers with his first one-man show of his paintings at the, Felix Landau Gallery.
