A contemporary Indian artist, Babu Eshwar Prasad is a painter renowned for drawing on his own dreams and, with the mind’s eye, recreating the almost mystical visions that have come to him. Prasad’s landscapes perfectly capture the subversion of dreams; the scenery is familiar in the sense that you can clearly make out a sky, a mountainside, a tree, or a river – but the colours are often not what you would expect – imagine a blood-red sky or yellow mountains. It has also been remarked that Prasad’s paintings retain a child-like quality, in the sense that he denotes the fantasy and wild imaginings of youth as a means of expressing the disappointment we all feel when viewing certain nostalgic scenes through the eyes of an adult.
What is Contemporary art from India?
Contemporary art from India dates from 1985 to the present, marking the post-liberalization era. During this period, artists have felt free to create independently of traditional Hindu or social conventions. They often incorporate distinctly Indian materials and objects in their work, reflecting a blend of modern ideas and cultural heritage.
