Color is an autonomous fact that exists without the need for form.

- Carlos Cruz-Diez
A member of the Op Art movement, Carlos Cruz-Diez is renowned for his work in kinetic and optical forms of art. Cruz-Diez was fascinated by colour and the optical illusions that can be achieved through manipulation and placement of it. His work was based on the moiré effect – a technique that used lines of contrasting colour to create the illusion of movement and most notably found in his Physiochrome series. Later in his career, Cruz-Diez began to use light as his medium as opposed to paint – his Spatial Chromointerference piece is one of his most recognised light installations. (Artist website)
