Dadamaino
Dadamaino (Italy, 1930–2004), born Eduarda Emilia Maino, was a pioneering artist in the Italian avant-garde. Associated with the Zero group and Arte Povera, she explored themes of space, light, and rhythm through minimalistic works. Her iconic Volumes series featured perforated canvases, challenging traditional notions of depth and perception in art.

A member of the avant-garde movement of Milan in the 1960’s, Dadamaino was a visual artist and painter, widely known for works such as Ricerca Del Colore - a study and analysis of the chromatics of the solar spectrum. Perhaps this work highlights better than any the central focus of her artistic outputs - space, light and movement. Dadamaino was a member of several artistic groups throughout her career, including the Manzoni-funded group - Azimuth, and Zero, alongside Heinz Mach and Gunter Uecker. L’Alfabeto della Mente (Alphabet of the Mind), was one of Dadamaino’s later works in which she directed her focus on to text-based art to create signs that depicted repeated text. Dadamaino has been staunch in her praise for Yves Klein and Lucio Fontana, citing them as major influences on her own artistic endeavours. (Artist website)
